The Hanoverian Purdue Boilermaker Special Edition in black PVD is the stealth version of a Purdue Boilermakers watch, an Indiana-assembled automatic that reads as a serious tool watch first and a fan piece second. This configuration is limited to 50 pieces, part of an initial run of 100 across both variants. Backorders available.

Gold on black, at full contrast

A black PVD-finished 316 stainless steel case frames a warm gold dial for all-out contrast. The dial is anchored by the Purdue Motion P®, with an hour indice at twelve shaped like the cowcatcher of a steam locomotive , a nod to the legendary Boilermaker Special. Marking the seconds is a hand modeled after Purdue Pete’s sledgehammer, moving steadily around the dial. A sailcloth-texture FKM strap keeps the whole thing wearable through heat, sweat, and water.

Exhibition caseback and Motion P® rotor

Through the exhibition caseback you can watch the movement at work behind a black oscillating rotor engraved with the Motion P®, the engine of the watch on full display. Underneath it sits a Miyota 9015 automatic, regulated in house to a target of ±5 seconds per day with a 42-hour power reserve.

Indiana assembly, built for daily wear

We assemble, regulate, and test every Hanoverian in Indiana. That’s our take on the timeless tool watch, rugged enough for the day-to-day, refined enough to mean something, and finished close enough to home that a person’s name is attached to it. It makes a Purdue graduation gift or alumni keepsake with a longer life than anything else in the campus bookstore. It may not be your grandfather’s watch, but with time, we hope it becomes your grandson’s.

Each watch arrives in a leatherette travel case and is backed by a two-year warranty.

What does black PVD mean, and will it wear off?

PVD (physical vapor deposition) bonds a hard black coating to the 316 stainless steel case at a molecular level. It’s far more durable than paint or plating, though like any coating it may eventually show wear on high-contact edges, which most owners consider part of the character.

Where is this Purdue Boilermakers watch assembled?

In Indiana. Assembly, in-house regulation, and final testing all happen here before the watch ships.

What’s the difference between the two Boilermaker Special editions?

This one is black PVD with a gold dial, a sailcloth-texture FKM strap, and an exhibition caseback showing the Motion P® rotor. The other is polished steel with a black dial, a steel H-link bracelet, and the solid Hoosier Heritage caseback engraved with an Indiana barn scene. Same movement, same case dimensions, same 50-piece edition size.

Can I swap the FKM strap?

Yes, it’s a standard 20 mm lug width, so any 22 mm strap will fit.

Are the Purdue watches part of Watchtoberfest?

No, the Purdue watches, like other special edition watches are excluded from Watchtoberfest and other promotions.
